Restaurierung der Furtwängler & Hammer-Orgel (1892) | III/44 | 2010
The firm of Furtwängler & Hammer is an important firm in North Germany, whose work over many years had a significant influence on the organ history of the region. The cathedral organ in Königslutter is an interesting example of romantic organbuilding towards the end of the 19th century and important testament to tonal ideas of the period.
The instrument was altered to reflect changes in taste, though, fortunately, only part of the pipework was affected. When the action was electrified there must have been people around who ensured that the old mechanical action was safely stored away, something that seldom happens in such rebuilds.
This fortunate set of circumstances has allowed us to restore and reinstate the old mechanical action without having to rebuild it from new. It has been an interesting task and one which has made the organbuilder's heart beat a little faster.
