Organ Works

Frankfurt am Main, Heilig-Kreuz-Kirche

Renovation of the Gebr. Späth organ (1964) | II/23 +1 TM | 2019 | Opus 770

PLANNED COMPLETION LATE 2019

In 1964, the Gebr. Späth firm built an organ, typical of its time, for the Church of the Holy Cross in Frankfurt-Bornheim, dedicated in 1929. The key action is electric and the stop sliders electro-pneumatic.

The renovation this year will include cleaning of the instrument together with revisions in several areas.  The free-standing console will be completely overhauled and equipped with new stop tablets incorporating LEDs. The electrics require partial renewal, as also the leather of the bellows, motors and other electro-pneumatic parts. The windchests will be overhauled and the wind supply stabilised with a new regulating mechanism and a new blower.

On the tonal side, voicing adjustments will lend the organ more character and reduce excessive sharpness. At the same time the Pommer 16 will be remade as a Bordun with greater carrying power.
