The Christuskirche, together with the choir based there, is acknowledged as the most important centre of Lutheran church music in Freiburg. Following the most recent restoration and reordering in 2016, the interior of the church, dedicated in 1891, has a light and peaceful atmosphere, sympathetically underlined by the clear, understated architecture.

The organ on the rear gallery was installed by the Austrian firm of Rieger in 1980 and is typical of its time both tonally and in the design of the case. The instrument underwent a thorough overhaul as the final stage of the renovation of the church interior.

The console, key action and swell shutters required inspection, repair and adjustment. The electrics and wind system were to be returned to proper working order and a new blower provides an adequate supply of wind. Collapsed pipe feet were repaired and stabilised.

The tonal side required modifying and balancing out. Intensive voicing adjustments, particularly of the reed stops - yet remaining within the original tonal concept - lend the instrument greater gravity, colour and charisma. The Zink 4 in the Pedal was replaced by a musically more useful Violoncello 8.
