Gebhardshain, Ev. Kirche
new organ | II/20 (8 Ext. + 9 Tr.) | opus 1022 | 2026
The Lutheran church in Gebhardshain was consecrated in 1863. Its single-nave interior with exposed roof construction shows elements of the round arch style, yet remains sober and reserved overall, except for blind columns with Corinthian capitals and a colourfully glazed polygonal chancel.
In 2026, we installed a new organ in place of the previous instrument, which had been removed. The asymmetrical placement on the right side of the gallery is dictated by the spatial requirements necessary for joint performances with choirs and instrumentalists. To make optimal use of the space, the instrument was designed as a side-facing gallery organ. The façade design reflects the simple aesthetic of the room.
To make the most versatile use of the limited number of stops, a design was implemented here that combines conventional stops on a wind chest with single-note-controlled extension rows. The integrated tone-hole masking causes a pipe that is already sounding—and is controlled via transmission—to sound again. The Principal Chorus with its sound crown forms a plenum that serves as the tonal backbone. A swell box houses seven additional stop rows for complementary timbres, which can be played in multiple bass registers via octave extensions. With the exception of the chained reed row, the stops belonging to a given pipe row are identifiable by the same designation. Both manuals feature both the principal stops and the swellable color and fill stops. In addition to various transmissions, the pedalboard features its own, similarly extended stopped-reed series based on the 16’ stop. The conceptually driven electric action, combined with the integrated setter system, offers extensive possibilities for musical application. The concept was designed by organ expert Michael Müller-Ebbinghaus (Evangelical Church in the Rhineland) and finalized in collaboration with our workshop.
