The former Bruckner Conservatory became the Anton Bruckner Private University in Linz in 2004. In 2016, we built a new concert and study organ in the French Romantic style for the chamber music hall of the new university building.

The sound concept of the three-manual educational instrument corresponds to the organ building tradition cultivated by Aristide Cavaillé-Coll around 1865. The aim of our work was to miniaturize a large cathedral organ sound to the approximately 165 m² room without it seeming intrusive. This placed considerable demands on the scaling, voicing, and the necessary wind conditions.

The specification offers a variety of characteristic voices that complement each other and typically blend together excellently to create new timbres. The stops of the Positif can be transmitted individually to the pedal. In addition to two octave couplers, Cavaillé-Coll's system of “pédales de combinaison” is also available, which, together with the historical console layout and foot levers, allows for authentic registration.

In keeping with the models, the action was designed mechanically. To accommodate modern concert practice, the stop control is equipped with a dual action (mechanical/electrical) and a setter system. The additional valves of the “jeux de combinaison” are controlled by a small pneumatic lever inside the windchests, so that their use does not detract from the elegant playability.

The historical reference in terms of sound and technology is also visually evident in the design of the facade. The elaborate design is inspired by the Cavaillé-Coll organ in the Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Moscow. See this video showing the designing process.
